College Access Matters II will be released at the MMEP Conference on November 18th. This report, the second MCAN/MMEP has issued in recent years, is meant to contribute to the practical knowledge needed to effectively reach students of color and American Indian students in MN. MCAN has conscientiously reached out across the entire state including; Greater MN communities, American Indian reservations as well as the Twin Cities, to pull together insights from over 3000 students. These hugely successful events are great for introducing families to the college process, with a focus on how to finance college through financial aid and scholarships. The events include a mini college fair, food, childcare and engaging speakers and panelists who can help families understand what it takes to prepare for and pay for college.

We are excited to announce that the Minnesota College Access Network has expanded outreach efforts in Greater MN. Stacy Lund will be joining our team in Central MN and Raquel Imbert will join us in Southern MN. These coordinators are funded through generous support from Great Lakes and will conduct and support outreach for college access in Southern and Central counties. As a request from our members, we are kicking off monthly networking sessions for the college access world. You do not have to be a member to attend! Just register, join us for breakfast and network with programs and provides to share ideas, best practices and great conversation! The Regional Educational Laboratory Rural Working Group invites education stakeholders to a webinar on research-based information on postsecondary access and success for rural students. The webinar introduces the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Practice Guide “Helping Students Navigate the Path to College: What High Schools Can Do,” and features lead author William Tierney, director of the Center for Higher Education Policy Analysis and Professor of Higher Education at the Rossier School of Education, University of Southern California.
